I’m a knitwear designer-maker, tutor and author of ten knitting, crochet and stitch books.

I live in Brighton on the south English coast and work from the home I share with my partner, illustrator and graphic designer François Hall (who is behind all the funny and wonderful illustrations in my children’s books). Warmth, colour and humour are vital elements in my work, and my designs are a blend of quirky and sweet motifs and toys for children and more traditional, folk inspired designs for adults.

I studied constructed textiles and some of my earliest collections, one off pieces and designs were for The Conran Shop, Paul Smith, the British Crafts Council and Rowan. I now specialise in Northern, Scandinavian and Baltic hand knitting, nålbindning and crochet techniques and enjoy traveling to research the knitting and textile cultures, yarn and folk history of these areas.

My first four books; Designs for Kids: Hand Knits and Things, And So To Bed, Crochet Designs for Kids and Knitting Motifs for Babies and Kids are all collections for children. Northern Knits: Designs Inspired By The Knitting Traditions of Scandinavia, Iceland And The Shetland Isles, Northern Knits: Gifts and First Frost: Cozy Folk Knitting, are collections for adults, children and the home and all explore Northern, Scandinavian and Baltic knitting techniques.

My latest book, Kids Learn to Stitch is the third in the hugely popular Kids Learn to… series created in collaboration with Francois Hall. The series includes Kids Learn to Knit and Kids Learn to Crochet, both of which continue to receive fabulous reviews.
