What better way for me to celebrate the beginning of National Wool Week than by finding out that First Frost is now being published in Estonia.
First Frost: Cozy Folk Knitting (Interweave 2014), is a celebration of Northern, Nordic and Baltic decorative folk knitting techniques and in particular those techniques used for folk mitten, glove and sock making.
There are projects for women, men, children and the home and you can explore unique folk techniques such as knotted and decorative cast ons, braiding, steeking, colour work, distinctive regional shaping, decorative fringing, embroidery, thrumming and twined and twisted stitches.
I am particularly pleased, as just lately Estonian knitting has been receiving – quite deservedly – a great deal of interest and there are now many fascinating books available on this subject.
I’ve written about Designs and Patterns from Muhu Island and Haapsalu Rätt before and you can find out about more recent publications here.
So many knitting techniques – so little time!
