This lace weight, pure Icelandic wool yarn from Ístex is one of the warmest yarns I have knitted with and is ideal for making beautifully light but superbly insulating projects. Once washed and worn it will reward you by becoming softer and even more cosy. It is manufactured exclusively by Ístex of Iceland from pure Icelandic wool supplied by Icelandic farmers – it is one of my favourites.
Lodband is available in a magnificently dramatic palette, ranging from deep sea blues and greens, volcanic blacks and soft natural browns and greys to glacial white and lava reds. So, if you are looking for an injection of colour to combat dark midwinter days or you want something soothing to curl up and hibernate in, this yarn will be perfect.
I used it for 3 of the Icelandic projects in Northern Knits.
The Ennid Shawl is a really simple but really useful shawl which is great for wrapping and tying. I wear mine (as a scarf) nearly all the time – indoors and out! – and it is great for cycling as it actually stays put. The Hulda Striped Pullover is fantastic for layering as it’s so fine and light and the Yrsa Mitts, which are always much admired (and if its really cold you can always wear a bigger pair of mittens on top of them…)
