Estonian Decorative Knitted Cast On Techniques

Learn some of the many stunningly beautiful and original decorative cast on techniques used for traditional Estonian knitted mittens, socks and sweaters. Techniques will include the classic two color, old Estonian Fish Tail cast on and the extravagantly decorative, Fringed cast on. There will also be plenty of tips for making knitted cuffs for folk mittens and socks.

Swedish Twined Knitting: the basics

Learn the ancient and beautiful Swedish Twined or two-ended knitting technique. This technique produces a wonderfully firm and double thick fabric that is ideal for making mittens and socks. During the workshop you will knit a small sample, working in the round with 5 double-pointed needles and you will be given patterns for Twined mittens to take away and finish at home.

Thrums and Thrumming!

Learn all about the superbly insulating and decorative
folk art of thrums and thrumming. During the workshop
you will learn what a thrum is and how you can make
one, and how to create wonderfully insulated mittens
by incorporating thrums as you knit.
