Introduction to Nordic Mitten Making
Learn how to make beautifully decorative, Nordic style mittens using five needles.
During the workshop you will knit a ‘sample’ mitten and will learn how to knit a traditional, two coloured decorative cast on edge, colourful textural stitches, intricate knitted braids and geometric folk patterns. You will be given a pattern for a pair of mittens to take away and finish at home and there will be plenty of tips for making traditional Nordic knitted cuffs for folk mittens.
This workshop would be suitable for anyone comfortable with basic knitting skills and who is familiar with knitting in the round with five needles and using the Fair Isle or stranded knitting technique. Please bring along DK knitting yarn in three contrasting colours (preferably wool), a set of five double pointed needles (which ever size you find compatible with the yarn), a tapestry needle, pencil, paper and scissors.
