Northern Knits:
Explore Folk Knitting Techniques For Accessories

During this course you will learn some of the stunning and original decorative techniques
used in Northern folk hand knits, using
beautiful Nordic knitting wool.

Techniques will include beautiful, authentic decorative cast on’s used for traditional Nordic knitted mittens, socks and sweaters – such as the classic two colour, old Estonian Fish Tail cast on and an extravagantly decorative, fringed cast on, as well as traditional techniques for creating texture and colour. There will be plenty of opportunities to pick up tips for incorporating these techniques into your own folk mittens and socks.

You will also learn all about the superbly insulating and
decorative folk art of ‘Thrums and Thrumming and
during the course you will learn what a thrum is, how
you can make one, and how to create your own
wonderfully insulated mittens, hats or socks by
incorporating thrums as you knit.

This course would be ideal for the intermediate knitter
who has either taken a related course or has some
existing skills as you will need to be able to knit
confidently in stocking stitch and ideally be able to
knit in the round with 4 double pointed needles.
