Steeking & Cutting
Revolutionise the way you knit by learning the uniquely northern technique of steeking – cutting! – your knitting to create openings and arm holes.
What Is A Steek and Why Do We Need Them?
In the first 2 hour class these questions will be answered and different regional and traditional steeking variations will be discussed. There will be home work! Small knitted pieces using a DK pure wool yarn will be started on and then finished at home in preparation for the following class. The more knitted pieces you make the more steeking practice you can get.
Cutting Your Steeks!
In the second, 3 hour class, you will use your pre-knitted pieces to get to grips with understanding how to reinforce, cut, finish and trim your steeks.
This workshop would be ideal for the intermediate knitter who has either taken a related course or has some existing skills as you will need to be able to knit confidently in stocking stitch and ideally be able to knit in the round with 5 double pointed needles.
Once you have completed the course you will understand what steeks are, how to use them and how to cut and finish them and you will be able to steek and cut your own knitted projects.
