If you would like to know all about planning, knitting and cutting your very own Nordic knits why not come along to my Northern Knits: Folk Knitting Techniques for Garments workshop at West Dean later this month – there are still some places left.
As this is a residential course, there will be plenty of time to immerse yourself in all things Nordic and knitted and you will be able to explore the history and construction of the black and white Norwegian Lusekofter, the richly patterned Fair Isle sweater and the classic patterned and yoked Icelandic Lopi. You will also be able to put into practice steeks and steeking – the traditional art of cutting hand knitted fabric to create arm, neck and front openings. (Last March I wrote a post all about steeks and steeking.) You will also have the opportunity to learn the uniquely beautiful Swedish technique of tvåändsstickat – two ended, or twined knitting – which creates a distinctively Nordic fabric that is firm, warm and durable.
Find out more and book here – I shall look forward to seeing you.
