Swedish Nålbindning
for Woollen Textiles

Get to grips with nålbindning, the ancient Scandinavian technique for creating woollen textiles using a single needle.

Understand the importance of this unique and often complex textile technique that predates knitting and which is still widely practiced today in Sweden, Finland and other Scandinavian countries. Learn how to recognise nålbindning textiles and gain an understanding of their construction and amazingly warm and durable qualities.

During this course we will focus solely on a single, classic Swedish nålbinding method using an authentic nålbindning needle and Nordic yarn. You will learn how to choose and prepare your yarn for nålbindning, how to construct basic stitches, how to complete a row and then continue working in the round. You will also learn how to increase and decrease stitches and how to construct simple socks and mittens, working on projects as you go.

Once you have completed the course
you will have understood the
very basics of Swedish nålbindning,
enabling you to plan, size and
complete your own simple
nålbindning projects.

This course is ideal for
beginners or for anyone wanting
to brush up on the very basics
of nålbindning.
