The perfect Spring gift?

Socks-portraitThese lovely Noomi slippers are inspired by the versatile Faroese skóleistur – short, knitted, slipper like wool socks that were traditionally worn in Faroese homes and pulled on over the top of boots or shoes to prevent slipping on wet ground, ice and snow.

Traditionally these skóleistur would have been double thick so as to be extra insulating, and this is how I originally designed the Noomi Slippers for Northern Knits Gifts.

However, this particular pair does not have the extra lining, so they are lighter and ideal for warmer weather  – and of course, you will need less yarn (only 100gms/250m).

They are quickly knitted in the superb 2 ply Sirri (Light DK or Sport weight), using dpn’s and the little bird motif (adapted from Knitting Motifs) is made with tiny amounts of coloured yarn using duplicate stitch.
