I’ve just been to see the Enid Marx exhibition at Pallant House, which is well worth seeing, although it’s a shame that it wasn’t a larger, more comprehensive look at all her life’s work – her paintings, prints and fabrics.
In the 1920’s Marx collaborated with the Curwen Press who produced decorative papers from her wood engravings and she then spent a year training with Barron and Larcher before setting up her own workshop producing her deceptively simple, hand printed fabrics.
There were a few of these at the exhibition, but I really wanted to see more – it was really inspiring though…
Selvedge have an article on this exhibition in their latest issue.
